I began teaching privately in the greater Milwaukee area in 2012. With my help and motivation, a fifth grader decided to keep his flute and play in his beginning band, despite his families' circumstances. Later, I picked up an interested eighth grader, who eventually received a Gold at regional solo contest and also made the all-state band. My teach style varies based on the need of the student. I have students that are serious so I would create a syllabus that consist of taking exams or perform in recitals. My other students who just want to have fun with piano, I teach them little pop songs. My method is based on what the student desire. I want my students to enjoy playing the piano. I want to make sure my students are comfortable with what they are doing even when they are outside of their comfort zone. There is such a thing as too far so pushing them outside their limit is unhelpful in a private lesson. I want the student to feel excited and accomplished in what they are doing because everyone's musical journey is different, even if students are starting from the same skill level they will have different things they have to work on to become better musicians. Each student is unique in their own way, from how they learn to how they produce an end product. But one thing I stress in my teaching with all students is demonstration, imitation and repetition. The old adage that says, "practice makes perfect", is not always right. If the student is practice wrong, they will perform it wrong. I believe its my responsibility to demonstrate how it is done right so they can imitate it right and make sure that they are repeating it correctly. Read More

My approach as a teacher is to see what the voice is already doing and improve on the foundation that we already have. All music-making is positive music-making. My students love that I laugh and chat with them during our lessons. I primarily teach Musical theater and characterization, but I can also teach classical music and diction (languages). I believe that style, voice phenomenons, language/diction, artistic innovation, decision-making, characterization, and active choice-making are the best ways to get someone to make great music.
