I am both an avid teacher and an avid performer. In addition to my teaching experience, I have performed in concerts across the US, as well as throughout Europe. I bring a wide variety of performing practices into my lessons, having experience in both vocal and instrumental performance and teaching, as well as involvement in over 80 theatrical productions. My background in Special Education brings a unique approach to my music education, and I would love to adapt my lessons to meet the individual needs of my students. Read More

I find a great sense of joy in my students developing a passion for music much like my own. It is important to me to include composition, theory, and history in my lessons so that my students can understand music as a whole, rather than just being a talented performer. My favorite part of each lesson is when students make discoveries on their own, and when they realize they are able to answer their own questions. Read More

I love it when I see a student smiling because of their hard work and dedication to their instrument. Therefore, it is important that each student progresses at her or his own pace. I always encourage my students to start slow and to not get frustrated. From personal experience there are times when I have been learning a song and work on it day in and day out and it seems like there is no progression in sight. Read More

It would be my joy to see each and every one of my students become professional classical musicians. However, I know for most students, their instruments are purely hobbies. It is most important to me that each student is enjoying their time in their lessons and being motivated to practice and perform outside of lessons. I believe that while critique is crucial to improvement, acknowledging strengths and giving compliments is vital to strengthening a students self-esteem and getting them motivated to practice and thus perform well. I tend to use the Faber Piano Adventure series as the basis for starting lessons. This series is very widely known and it is really one of the best methods available for teachers to use. I like it because two people are the authors and composers, a husband a wife team, and together they create interesting and enjoyable compositions that students of all ages like to play. They provide a wide variety of types of music from classical to blues to jazz and brance out into Christmas and Disney songs, all in different levels, so students can have a consistent series to grow and to never get bored!
