I will generally start out with well known songs sung by ear, and then depending on the students level help them to learn to read music. I like to find songs that students really care about, because then they will be more interested in learning them. My teaching style is very flexible in that all students are different, and learn in different ways. Ive taught really young kids and Ive also taught seniors. Part of our final project included giving a sample lesson to a colleague, and I fell in love with helping someone achieve their goal through singing. I have taught in several different settings over the years, but my private studio has been the most satisfying environment. For beginning children, I will usually select Hal Leonard or the Bastien series combined with appropriate solo repertoire. For intermediate students and adults who are beginners, I select from the Suzuki method or Hanon books combined with repertoire. I also like to find out the students' interests (classical, pop, musicals, and so forth) to select combinations of music that will be most engaging for them. I tailor each lesson to the student, and depending on the students needs and goals, create lesson plans with a "project management" outlook that include objectives for the weeks ahead. Read More

For voice I create my own custon lesson plans and use a variety of materials. Students will work on a great variety of repetorie from pop to renaissance. Students are encourgaed to learn to read music, with a great emphasis placed upon practical music theory. I aim to develop intellegent musical artists, foscuing upon intrepretation, critical thinking, historical considerations and creativity. For piano I general use the Faber and Faber method books unless I feel that a particular method would better benefit a specific student. Read More
