Every lesson begins with a check-in! How is life? What is going on? How are you? These are questions that are essential parts of our shared living experiences. Depending on what level students are working through in their development, we will spend time working on the physicality of technique: posture, healthy hand/arm/wrist practices, and breathing freely. The rest of the lesson will be simply an exploration of the music that we are working on together. Read More

The dedication it takes to learn an instrument can help develop skills values that will benefit the student throughout life, regardless of profession. Therefore, I believe that the process of learning music is more important than any particular performance that we work toward, so I take a pragmatic approach to instruction. Of course, we look forward to recitals and concerts, because they give our rehearsals direction, but it should also be emphasized that our most rewarding musical experiences may happen in lessons or private practice. I completed their rigorous course of study and became a Certified McClosky Voice Technician (CMVT) in 2017. Studying the McClosky Voice Technique opened up a whole new world for me and my skill with speaking and singing improved dramatically. I can guarantee you that I can help you correct any voice related frustrations you might have, for example Lack of endurance Trouble accessing your whole range with ease Breaks and other limiting issues Vocal fry Your voice giving out just when you need it to soar A weak voice or inability to project Repetitive hoarseness and strain Being hoarse after work Stage fright Limited flexibility Monotone speaking Needing to grab breaths too often Inability to speak or sing long phrases Trouble singing expressively Wabbles, bleats, breathiness, and other unpleasant sounds Its all fixable, but only if you are willing to slow down and become sensitive to how your body wants to sing and speak. I usually find it is in the best interest of myself and my student to begin with familiar repertoire and then to expand as we become comfortable and adventurous. A lesson might include any of the following: Warm-ups/breath work/agility Vocal improvisation via line, phrasing, syllables, dynamics etc. Ear-training/sight-reading using common modes/scales/chord progressions/solfege/interval recognition Basic piano grips for practice accompaniment Performance etiquette education: calling tunes, counting off, knowing a form etc. Read More

Every student learns at their own pace, and in their own way. Discovering what type of learner your student is (kinesthetic, auditive, visual), is essential in providing examples and assignments for the student to work on. I do believe that with encouragement and patience, anyone can learn the noble art that is the language of music, you just have to find and fuel the student's interests, make that flame grow into a passion, and then lead with the example, 99% of the time the student will follow, the other 1% of the time you just need to get creative :) Read More

In 2014, I began teaching students privately. I taught multiple students of different ages, with a range from early childhood to late adulthood. Most of my students were beginners, and we worked together for over a year. By the end of our time together, they were able to play fairly advanced music for the time they had been playing, such as "La Folia" by Corelli and "Jesu, the Joy of Man's Desiring" by Bach. My teaching experience began in 2015 when I served as the Musical Director for On Center Performing Arts in Missoula, MT. In 2016 I moved to the Seattle area to continue my journey as a teacher. I served as an instructor for Voice in the Valley Music Studio in Maple Valley and as a Music Leader for Musically Minded. The past 2 years I served as Director for Voice in the Valley's Musical Theatre/Disney summer camp. Read More
