For all of my students regardless of age and level, this is the question I ask during our first lesson: "Why are you taking voice lessons? What kind of repertoire interests you? I want to honor your investment by being a flexible and resourceful teacher." More specific break-downs of how my instructions will look are as follows: For younger students who are just beginning their musical training, I typically start with providing lessons that encompass various elements of musicianship -- in addition to basic vocal training, I will introduce basic music theory concepts and help familiarize my students with various musical notations, so that they are able to continue their musical work outside of our lessons. For beginning to students I like to have them learn their notes on the bass guitar first and foremost. Once we have become familiar with the neck of the bass we introduce Hal Leonards's Bass Method Book 1. This will build our foundation for learning to read time signatures, notes in bass clef, rhythms, as well as playing complete songs. For intermediate bass students I like to gauge the level and tailor a program for that individual. Read More

I enjoy being outdoors and hiking, biking, canoeing and camping. I do have a cat, so if you are severely allergic, this is important for you to know. (I used to be allergic myself till I switched to a mainly vegan diet, so I know how sick you can get even if the cat is not in the room at the time.) I have lived in Olympia since July. My spouse works at the State Capitol and my two sons live in Enumclaw and Auburn. Read More
