1985-2018 I taught general music and band in the public School K-5 2007-Present Lead Guitar for Grace Community Church 1990- Present I have given private lessons and taught guitar, voice, recorder, ukulele and trumpet

Overview:
I enjoy teaching students of all ages! I have taught in the public school for 35 years and have worked with over 5000 students of all ages! I enjoy creating original music in my recording studio and have written many songs. I have played guitar and sang for the Miss Washington program and performed as a solo artist as well as with other musicians. One of my favorite concerts was playing guitar for the Living Christmas Tree services at Overlake Christian Church. I also enjoy performing at weddings and banquets!
EXPERIENCE
I taught high school band and choir as well as K-5 music education for 35 years. In the public school I have directed musical dramas and up to 4 concerts a year with students of all ages. In the classroom, I taught group piano, recorder, voice, group guitar, many different types of dances and ear training. I did my best to make the lessons fun and my students always looked forward to their weekly music class. I enjoyed seeing students take what they learned in music class and continue with their musical experience outside the classroom and in their home and community.
METHODS USED
When working with younger children, I use the Children's progressive method for guitar and for the older students I use the Hal Leonard guitar method books 1, 2 and 3. As my students progress, I supplement the lesson with songs that my students enjoy and want to learn. I also focus on ear training to help students musically hear what they are playing. Whether it's voice, guitar, ukulele, trumpet or recorder, hearing the music inside and being able to internalize the music is very important to becoming a well rounded musician.
LESSON STYLE
I try to make the learning fun and interesting for my students. My goal is to have them look forward to their next lesson and make learning their instrument something they value. I believe every student progresses at their own pace. I make sure the lesson is at a level they can handle, but challenging enough to give them a sense of accomplishment when they achieve success. Music can provide lifelong benefits of building confidence, self discipline, improved brain functioning in the area of math and reading, and the enjoyment of performing their skill with other musicians.

My son has been taking guitar lessons from Mr. Dan T. for over five years, starting on second grade, and is thoroughly enjoying them. He has progressed tremendously under Dan's tutelage, and is having a lot of fun learning. Dan is a thoughtful and inspiring teacher who manages to fit music theory and time for play in his lessons. He chooses pieces and style of music that fit a particular student, encouraging playing for joy. It has been amazing to watch my son grow into a confident musician who enjoys improvising and making his own music, playing with friends and for audiences, and for his own pleasure. Dan is a remarkable teacher, and a fun, warm personality who is a great fit for people of all ages,

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
