My experience goes back to High School when I would give casual tutoring sessions to friends. In college I started teaching lessons in theory and composing/songwriting. I like to encourage students to get on a practicing schedule especially for younger students as it helps them get more interested in the instrument. My teaching experience includes working as Skills Instructor at a day program for adults with disabilities. There, I taught dance classes and sing alongs, meditation groups, cooking groups general life skills. I have also lead music in nursing homes for patients with dementia/Alzheimers. I have traveled throughout high school and college, along the east coast, to perform with choirs at churches, schools, and public events. For the voice (as it is a built-in instrument) we work on expanding vocal range through warm-up exercises. It's important to identify the natural transitions throughout a student's voice, usually based on classical technique for healthy sound production. We will be able to reconcile the voice with the music that the student is interested in singing, all styles are welcome! I began teaching almost 15 years ago, starting with private lessons, and eventually branching out to singing and handbell choirs, inner-city after school programs, outreach programs for the homeless, and adult continuing learning in Boston, MA. I moved to NJ 3 years ago to be closer to my musical theatre career, and have enjoyed teaching private lessons to typical and special needs students of all ages.
