I'm an engaging and energetic musician/teacher that thrives in helping my students discover their passion for music. After graduating from the University of Delaware with a Bachelor of Arts (concentration in Creative Writing and Jazz Studies) in 2005, I have spent the past 17 years helping hundreds of private students of all ages, ability levels, backgrounds, and styles discover their musical voice on their chosen instrument. As an active performing musician, I've played in a variety of bands/contexts in my local community, helping to support, create, and grow the local music scene, while encouraging my students to perform while providing them advice on how to best do so. For younger students, I tend to focus on the production of breath and basic sounds as they begin to grow into their body. This is to ensure that the baseline technique is there as they find how their instrument, the voice, is growing into their developing selves. For adult students of any technique, I prefer to start with basic vocal exercises to test the agility and flexibility of the voice so that I have an understanding of how their matured voice functions. I received a Master’s degree in Music from the Boyer College of Music in Philadelphia, PA in 2015 for Vocal Performance. Before that, I graduated from the National Music Academy of Ukraine named after P.I. Tchaikovsky in Kiev in 2013, where I received a Bachelor in Music, took parts in a lot of operas ("Le nozze di Figaro", "Eugene Onegin", "Faust") and also earned a certificate of teaching. Let start from the ground up! With a beginner guitarist or bassist I want to both keep them excited about learning and teach the the fundamental necessary structure required to develop into a one of a kind musician. I use finger training and strengthening techniques to get the students physical ability in tip top shape, along with innovative chord ideas and mental understanding techniques. Most importantly by the end of every lesson even the first one I leave my students with a cool riff to play to show them that what they are learning is truly working, I believe this will keep students engaged in the learning and keep them working harder for the next lesson. If a student isn't having fun learning the instrument then I am doing something wrong! Learning should be fun and a joy not a chore. I try to encourage the students to practice without being told to do so. With that comes a joy of doing it on your own and for themselves not for anyone else.
