For beginning students, I introduce musical theatre and classical repertoire and the fundamentals of music theory. As the student progresses, I include advanced exercises used to strengthen the voice and have them learn various styles of singing based on their interests and career path. Students are expected to vocalize every day on their own and complete any homework or songs before assigned dates. For students interested, I will also enter them into competitions and auditions where they can expand their performance experience. Read More

For beginning piano students, I use the method books from Faber's Piano Adventures series. If the student gets bored with one method book, I will mostly likely top it off with something else from Alfred. I stress mostly on counting proper rhythm, learning alphabets, and finger numbers for early age groups. For intermediate students, I would expect students toalreadybe able to read music aside from the rhythm challenges. For small children, I like to teach from the same book I first learned how to play guitar from. But, for older students, I like to base our lessons on their interests. Generally, I will ask a student if there is a song they really like. If so, we will learn the song by ear, or by sheet music for those interested, and break down all of its pieces. for VOICE Students: I usually associate singing the song with some kind of activity, usually passing a bouncy ball to the beat, or throwing it back and forth. From there, we progress to tapping the beat or the rhythm while singing. Then well combine the two: student claps the rhythm while I tap the beat, and vice versa. I want my students to be able to clearly distinguish these two elements, and to be able to feel and maintain a steady beat which will set them up with a strong foundation for playing more advanced music.
