So we study chords and rhythms, as they relate to the songs the client enjoys. I like to insert a five to ten minute practice before digging into the main lesson. This involves playing scales or running chord progressions or learning about, for example, the circle of 5ths or 4ths. I do teach more advanced levels, in which we learn how to substitute chords and arrange songs. I alwyas build goals into a program as it feels really good to achieve and move on to the next goal! When receiving a student I first like to get to know the student by friending them. Asking question as to what their likes are and just getting to know them. For the beginner we start of with a Method book that fits their age and personaity and go from there. For the student that already has had past music experience I like to hear them play at first and see at what level they are to be able to place them on the correct method. Read More

Ive had mixed success with students singing in tune. Some have no problems. With others, Im working hard with them at recognising and singing high and low notes as well as pitch matching. From there, I teach them to play each song on the piano through imitation. Through spaced repetition and regular review, I expect them to play these pieces from memory. What Ive observed is that there seems to be a spectrum: some students have a far easier time of memorising the songs and playing them at the piano. Read More

My approach is "Music as a support for life." We learn beyond the technical foundations but also about the intention of an author-composer in order to give a genuine rendition true to the intended emotion. Each student is treated as a unique individual and are brought to rise to the challenges they gave themselves with my caring passion for the art of music making and my respect for the student. I always try to make my classes fun and engaging. I manage a very particular teaching method based on how I have learned from my mentors. On the first class I ask what the student's interest is and what would make him/her happy to learn, how the student imagines playing and what styles of music are the favorites ones. If the student is beginner, I like to start teaching basic knowledge of instrument technique accompanied by easy rhythms so that the student feels motivated. Read More

I have had 2 private students for the past year both for voice: -Zoe 15 -Lucas 13 I officially started teaching while I was with The After School All-Stars teaching their school of rock band. I was with them for 3 years and in that time I was able to not only have the students perform as a band but I also taught the students how to be "techies". Not all of them wanted to play instruments but they still wanted to be a part of the group so I said Why Not?" I later on returned to my old high school and have been teaching there as a musical theater teacher. Read More

I believe that lessons should be fun! I had to overcome a lot of stage fright when I was a beginner, so it is important to me that the lesson environment is fun, low-pressure, and encouraging. I check in with my students frequently to see how they are feeling about trying new exercises and techniques, if they are understanding the skill I am teaching, and how they see themselves making progress. Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
