I do give every student the same basic foundation, but after the foundation is set, the continued direction is entirely up to the student [parent]. Each lesson will be solely based around the needs and wants of the student based on their age-level, experience, and goals as a musician. We will work on many different vocal exercises and warm-ups to make sure we are strengthening every part of the vocal range. Ear training and music theory exercises can be implemented as well for those students who would like to improve their overall musicianship. As for repertoire, students may bring in whatever they are interested in learning, and/or I am more than willing to choose songs that I think would be fun and challenging within the genre the student wishes to learn. Typically, I begin with regimented learning. For guitar students, I use Hal Leonards Guitar Method 1. For voice students, I teach basic breathing exercises and fun, sustainable and memorable warm-ups. From there, I begin to prep them for their first solo performances. I offer studio-wide performance opportunities for new and experienced students to show off their skills! As they progress, I teach to their interests and needs. I have been involved in the music industry as a commercial session vocalist, demo singer, and vocal coach for over 35 years. In 1988 I received my associates degree in music performance from Augusta State College, and then moved out west to focus on a career in music. During the 1990s as a commercial session vocalist, I was fortunate to have my voice featured on national network campaigns for ABC, NBC and CBS, as well as The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Wheel Of Fortune.
