Nothing is more rewarding than witnessing my students learn at their own pace, lessons are not to be rushed and homework is not to be treated carelessly. Understanding and being able to interpret the history of a piece is just as important and learning it, how are you to convince an audience without knowing it for yourself? I encourage this by setting realistic and well obtainable goals. Recognition for accomplishments is definitely a helping tool as well as fuel for progress of vocal abilities. Read More

A typical hour voice lesson involves three parts: 1) warm-up/vocalizing and listening to ones voice to learn more about the voice, sound production, breathing and placement; 2) working on a particular technique or perceived shortcoming; 3) applying the techniques from the lesson to a song or gaining confidence in performance. My teaching style is relaxed and fun but devoted to working on proper vocal technique and confidence building. For example, to be a good singer one must have a good understanding of the muscles and parts of the body that are involved in breathing and how that relates to making beautiful sounds. Read More

I am a music lover who would like to teach piano to help others to relieve stress, to develop a career in music or to learn something new. I have played for over ten years. Practice Makes Progress! My studio of aspiring musicians of all ages strives for the motto I came up with as an alternative to the popular, yet technically impossible and anxiety-inducing Practice Makes Perfect. I am a dedicated professional singer in the DC Metro area, and I operate Hannahs Music Studio as a way to share what I have learned through my many years of music studies and performances. I have had the opportunity of performing multiple operatic roles in Italy and San Marino, as well as during my Bachelor of Arts in Music degree for Vocal Performance at Luther College (2017), and during my Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance and Opera at the University of North Texas (2019). Having worked with students throughout Northern Virginia since 2000, I bring a depth of professional experience and knowledge to those who are eager to expand their minds, talents, and skills. I am passionate about musical education. It is my belief that music is a gift to be shared - not just between instructor and student but also between the student and their community. Read More

I am committed to helping each student reach his or her musical potential, and believe that this should be a fun-filled process. While I am a strong proponent of the importance of proper technique and form, I also strive to make sure that the artistry is never lost in the learning experience. I encourage students to set goals and to maintain a practice and study plan that enables them to achieve those goals. Read More

For first time students, I immediately begin focusing on the aspect of breath related to the voice. I achieve this by utilizing exercises such as Lip Trills, Tongue rolling, and belly laughs. The is a fun, interesting, and above all effective way to show the student what muscles are working and where. From there, I begin to build upon warmups starting from the simple (e.g. 3-5 note scales) eventually leading to more difficult (e.g. octave runs with triplet passages). Read More
