I adjust my teaching based on each student's abilities to maintain a relaxed, fun, and engaging atmosphere.For younger students, I typically start with Music for Little Mozarts, which includes a variety of activities in addition to the exploration of music. For older or more intermediate students, I recommend Faber Faber's Piano Adventures, which incorporates not only interesting musical selections, but also introduces music theory and analysis. For advanced students, I prefer to piece together selected repertoires based on music relevant to their interests; this typically includes a selection of classical and contemporary compositions with some discussion of the pieces' context within a greater scope of music history and theory. I encourage you, the student, to ask questions, and I believe it's imperative for you to understand why what you're learning is important. My teaching experience encompasses students of all ages. I began teaching in the UK where I taught voice lessons St. Georges School, Windsor Castle, for 4 years to boys and girls aged 4-13. I also taught solo and group lessons at a local High School. I currently teach private voice lessons and substitute at a DC area voice studio. Over the years I have taught multiple genres of music, including pop, folk and musical theatre, though predominantly my experience lies within the realms of classical, opera and choral music.
