My teaching method is based primarily on helping my students develop the skills needed to understand the language of music so that then they can create performances that are compelling and fulfilling to both the audience and themselves. I do not believe in a one-size-fits-all approach, and prefer to tailor my methods to the needs and goals of the student. My love for singing started when I was eight years old. I grew up singing in the Los Angeles Childrens Chorus which gave me much experience as a working musician starting at age eleven. I sang alongside notable alumnus Billie Eilish, as well as with Gustavo Dudamel, the LA Phil, and the LA Master Chorale. I am completing my Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Massachusetts Amherst this year and plan to continue my studies of voice and vocal pedagogy in my graduate studies. My teaching style is best referred to as a facilitator. Essentially, I promote self-learning, helping students develop critical thinking skills and retain knowledge that leads to self-actualization. I prefer to guide students by letting them think for themselves, pointing out when mistakes are made but also encouraging them to learn and grow from them. The draw back from this is that it can be a bit time consuming, but I feel that at the end of the day, this helps a student so that eventually they will be able to learn by themselves without a teacher. Singing is a difficult skill to teach. Our instrument is internal and is affected by our emotions, stress level, how much sleep we've had, even what we ate for breakfast! Because of this, I feel it is important to maintain a comfortable environment. I encourage my students to let go of their self-doubt and allow themselves to make mistakes. Although I keep lessons friendly, warm, and encouraging, I expect students to work hard and take their lessons seriously. Read More
