I am a current student at Ball State University studying to receive a Bachelor of Science Degree in Instrumental/General Music Education with an add-on in Vocal Education. I am passionate about teaching music and helping others reach their full potential on whatever instruments they want to play. I am versatile and can play on almost every instrument with piano as my primary focus. When I am not teaching, I spend my time practicing, performing, and always striving to improve on any and every instrument I have available. Read More

For adults, I would continue using these books but at a higher level with supplemental material on the side, which may include solo repertoire appropriate for them and Hanon's Virtuoso Pianist exercises (a few, not all). For voice students, I try to find out what it is they are interested in singing; I am comfortable with all genres but it should be noted that I am classically trained and can work more easily and comfortably for those wanting to sing classical music, musical theater, and church related music. A student must enjoy what they are working on in order to progress. Read More

My teaching style is focused around making sure my students feel comfortable. I try to always bring a positive and supportive envoirnment into our space. In the first lesson I usually give a set of ways to practicing that I believe will help each student succeed. This will include warm-ups, ways to go over a challenging section of a piece, and ways to improve overall technique. You should come to each less prepared and ready to work. Read More

I believe in teaching music that the student wants to learn, whether that's the latest pop song or basic music theory which can be applied to any style. For my piano students, I prefer Alfred's piano curriculum. For my guitar students, I use Hal Leanord books. For my voice students, we work on whatever songs they want to learn or have assigned to them for a performance. For flute, I like Rubank method, but am open to other preferred methods as well. Music has been a passion of mine my entire life. I started piano at the age of 4, flute at the age of 10, and sang throughout. I have enjoyed performing in many venues from coffee shops to churches to big music halls; functions from weddings and funerals to special dinners; and just for fun with family and friends. My undergraduate degree from Wheaton College is a Bachelor of Music with a concentration in Psychology, and my Masters is in Music Education. Read More

My views on teaching or being an instructor are vast. I evaluate what stage one is at and focus on the easiest ways for a student to understand their instrument and approach the musical side of learning. Every individual is different and their understanding of rhythm, melodies, chord structure, and time signatures can vary even though the fundamental structure of music and theory is relatively the same.
