I know it helped me when I was studying voice. Along with voice I find it important that a student understands and grasps the concepts of general music theory and the history of the pieces and composers of which they will be studying in hopes that such information will create an even deeper understanding and love for music. My students will be encouraged to enter competitions and recitals, as well as finding music that they would like to perform, so that they can feel good about their voice and stay motivated to learn. I am very relaxed in my teaching style and love the satisfaction of teaching privately. I choose to teach privately due to the heightened intensity of interaction with students and the fact that we can create a process that is uniquely adapted to the needs of each student. I have expectations for my students and they have expectations for me. I love that. I know and understand that if a student does not understand the method, technique, or approach I am trying to teach, it is not the student's fault, it is mine. Read More

I grew up singing in the children's choruses of The Metropolitan Opera and NYC Opera, dancing at The School of American Ballet in The Julliard School at Lincoln Center. I earned a college preparatory diploma from The Manhattan School of Music and went on to earn my BM and MM at Westminster Choir College (a world renowned choral conservatory in Princeton, NJ). After that I moved back to NYC where I maintained a wonderful studio of singers and some pianists for about five years. 6 years ago I moved out to New Haven where I have made my home. Read More

I have been teaching for more than 30 years, mostly in the public schools as well as privately. I have instructed large groups and ensembles, as well as smaller musical groups in and out of the public schools. Performing in various Jazz groups throughout the state has enhanced my teaching knowledge in the field of music education. My Masters degree in music education has enabled me to develop as a well rounded instrumental music teacher, and also as a flexible individual when it comes to understanding my students' musical needs. I am a very organised teacher, giving each of my students lesson notes with exercises and aspects to work on. I regularly suggest music which complements the work we are doing to strengthen the voice, create flexibility, or consistency of tone. I am a bit of a perfectionist, but I also hold myself to that high standard. It is so important to me to get students to listen to themselves, to think critically about what they hear and feel, and also learn how to troubleshoot issues on their own! Read More

I'm a dedicated and passionate vocalist who is looking forward to sharing my love of music and talents with others so that they too may develop a passion for singing. I graduated from Western Connecticut State University with honors and received a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance. I plan to receive a master's degree in opera studies or vocal pedagogy and then continue to study for my doctorate, (DMA.) I was also born with a special gift known as absolute (perfect) pitch.
