I ask my students which genre they like the most. Then I ask them which artist they admire and what they want to achieve in music. Once I know how passionate and committed my student is I set realistic goals and create the lesson. For every student I have a notice book so that I can write down what we did in each lesson and to see how they are growing and developing. Read More

I believe in keeping the lessons very interactive by making sure that it is not just the student playing/singing. I keep the lesson flowing from one activity, or song, to the next by using a common goal throughout the lesson. I began teaching voice and piano lessons in grad school and have been teaching for the past 5 years. I love sharing my passion for the voice as an instrument, and I feel that a strong foundation of music theory and keyboard skills is a must for vocalists. I use the basic classical warm ups , fundaments of classical singing , strengthening the diaphragm and voice placement. Building range slowly and carefully while building stamina through exercises and pieces that will help the individual voice grow. For Jazz , I use The Michele Weir Jazz Improvisation as a starting point. For students who want to build their technique but don't want operatic training per say, I work a lot with musical theatre pieces as well as pop or disney. Read More

I first ask each student to play for me so I can properly gauge the student's ability. From there, I assign practice pieces and songs that work on the techniques that require the most work. I have used this method for years and all of my students have found this to be the easiest and fastest way to improve.
