Because I have had voice training and have taught using many different methods, my students find much more quickly what works for them and their goals. They also have enjoyed the freedom of being able to tell me the sound they are wanting to make and receiving instruction how to make that sound, rather than being told they can only sing in a certain genre (usually classical) with a certain kind of sound (also usually classical). While I do teach students to read music and teach the theory behind tunes and compositions that we learn, I think that the MOST important element in anyone's pursuit of musical proficiency lay in the ability to connect what one hears to what one plays. I would like to see students progress each week, and each lesson. I will let them take their own pace, and see how much they can grow. I will ask intermediate and advanced students what their goals are so I can help them achieve their goals at the end of our lessons each week. For beginning students, I just want to see how they can progress and what can I keep teaching them. Read More

With beginning students, I tend to focus on the fundamentals for the instrument, and music. An adequate grasp of the fundamentals, along with consistent practice and rehearsal times, lead to a student expediting their abilities. At this point, I will start distributing solo repertoire/literature and duets. I always encourage my students to perform for one another and to their friends and family. Not every student learns the same way. Read More

My approach to teaching emphasizes the importance of patience and forming building blocks that will take the student to where they want to go, over time. I like to encourage my students by focusing on small victories that happen in each lesson so that they are inspired to accomplish more and more as our lessons continue. I have a friendly, no-pressure approach to teaching and I want my students to feel as comfortable as possible not only to be amazing singers and performers, but to also be equipped accordingly to handle snags or setbacks that may happen along the way.
