Instruments: Voice

Each lesson begins with a chat while we gently stretch, breathe and prepare your body to sing. Singers are attached to their instrument and so getting your mind focused and getting comfortable in the singing space allows us to have as productive a lesson as we can. We work on vocalizes and technique next- to properly warm you up and strengthen your instrument. All of the vocalizing we do is then put to work in your repertoire, chosen by me and also including your preferences and anything you bring that you are currently working on. Read More

Working for a local drum teacher in 2005, I started teaching private music lessons in students' homes. From there, I took up residence at a local music store where I taught guitar, ukulele, bass, harmonica, songwriting, and music theory for the next fifteen years. During the pandemic, I added teaching virtually to my repertoire and have fallen in love with it. Personally, I started playing music because I loved exploring and learning more about the music I I was already listening to--and I desperately wanted to learn how I could create my own sounds. I use my own materials and lesson plans based on my past experiences and education. For beginners, I will generally start with simple songs like Sweet Home Alabama, I Love Rock n Roll, and Heathens. These are all songs that can be played and sung simply and most students have heard them already! For more advanced students, I allow them to choose their own repertoire and will teach within those songs. Read More

My teaching experience all started 2 and a half years ago when I first began teaching voice and piano in my home studio, working primarily with younger students. My experiences in teaching one-on-one lessons have allowed me to identify a student's strengths and weaknesses, as well as their interests, likes, and dislikes, right away and help take their talents to the best of their abilities.
