Each student develops at their own pace. To improve quickly, practice is very necessary. To improve slowly, lessons may be what guides your practice time. It is up to the student (and parent). I like to keep the pace moving, but repeat as much as necessary to build a firm foundation. I definitely work with the music that you are interested in and want to perform. I help you to understand how to overcome nervousness and how to feel comfortable performing in front of small or large crowds. Read More

No one student is the same, and I create custom vocal exercises for each student. I will also choose music for students who don't have their own or would like ideas to set them in the right direction. I usually devote some time to teaching sight-reading in my lessons when someone is unsure of how to read music, and the rest of the time will be focused on the actual mechanics of vocal production and performing. I do not believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to learning an instrument. I utilize a variety of different methods for the variety of instruments I teach (guitar, bass, piano, ukulele, voice). I like to meet with my students and get an idea of the pace in which the learn and how much effort they want to put in. Along with working on music the student wants to learn, I have a wide variety of books as well as my own handouts prepared for my students. Read More

I've been teaching for the past 3-4 years, and have gotten a lot out of it. I like to make sure the student is enjoying him or herself as well as learning as much as possible in the process. I cater to the desires of individual students and am open to trying new things as well. If there is interest, I can help others write and record music as well as teaching them to sing or play piano. Utilizing the philosophy of experiential education, I encourage my students to explore music through their own personal experiences. Understanding the experience we have with music in our everyday lives, allows us to personally connect with the music and sounds that speak to us, while aslo nurturing creativity and curiousity within our instrument. My purpose is to not only teach the technical aspects of the instrument but also develop a deeper and more personal connection to music. Read More

For all of my students, I let them pick a song (vocal) or piece (violin) that they would like to sing or play. This way I can analyze what level they are on. For my voice students, I start with vocal warm-up exercises of the different vowels. It helps me to understand their range as well as tone of voice. For my violin students, I usually stick with the Suzuki Method, or Essential Elements books, if they are in the more beginning stages. Read More
