My students range in age from 15 to mature students, and in all facets of music performance, from hobbyist to professional opera singers and musical theatre performers. I have a strong belief that a solid classical vocal foundation will serve anyone in any aspect of vocal performance that they wish to pursue. For me, nothing is more rewarding, than to see my students follow and pursue their dreams. I believe that all students are able to carry their dreams out to the fullest as long as they put a little hard work and dedication. I enjoy bringing this to the classroom because it shows my students they are able to do anything that they put their heart and soul into. I have been teaching for 5 years, ever since of friend of mine asked for some lessons to help him get back to singing. I loved the direct connection to this very personal aspect of peoples' lives, and I felt humbled by the trust I was given. I gained experience by doing, asking questions, and really listening to the needs of my students. I approach every lesson with every student with a focus on patience, empathy, dedication to excellence for myself and my student, and a big dose of fun! For younger students and for beginners, I spend a good amount of time on laying out the basics of the instrument, the foundational techniques of playing, basic music theory, and discussions that allow the student to tell me what influences them and what they most want to achieve in music. I grew up in a musical family and began with the piano and violin then took up singing when I was 15. I found that I could excel and after living two years in Bolivia, came back and studied voice with a well traveled professional baritone in Seattle. He encouraged me and then I was able to apprentice at the Lyric Opera in Chicago for 2 years. It prepared me to be a professional singer, which I have done for over 30 years. Read More

When teaching guitar I often use the Hal Leonard Method for younger students. I am a big fan of the Berklee Modern Method books for those who learn a little faster. For piano I also have found several methods I like and often use the Hannon Piano exercise book as supplement.
