I aim to create a safe and open space for students to try, make mistakes, and make progress in a supportive environment. We laugh, we consider, and we seriously make beautiful music happen, often very quickly. I like to carve each lesson for what my students need, and it has a fun, experimental element: special technical exercises for your voice, listening and repeating work-outs for breath and pitch, and even more specifics for your goals. I like to enjoy myself, whether it's working or specifically NOT working. I am enthusiastic, positive, funny, caring, and dedicated to my craft and my students. I have a talent for adapting to different situations quickly and (usually) successfully. My experiences have been in all genres of music and on several different instruments. If you want to learn, I want to teach. We're a perfect match! Read More

I believe that it is truly important for any of my students to enjoy and love the music that they're practicing and learning. Therefore, it is important that I develop a specific teaching plan for each student. I encourage setting goals for each student to track progress and celebrate every accomplishment, making students eager to learn more. I encourage live performance, through either school talent shows, auditions, etc, because it is important for any vocalist to practice performing in front of an audience. Read More

I spend a couple of minutes every week quizzing them on their keyboard note identification until this has become a solid foundation for them. For additional practise, I have them colour in worksheets in addition to the quizzing. We also play the keyboard race game which is always a hit with students. A number of my new students in this age category are transfer students who have been learning for some time and are reading music notation in their method books, despite having significant trouble identifying notes on the keyboard quickly. I'm involved with a local gamelan ensemble (Indonesian percussion music), the Elizabeth Waldo Orchestra, and the Music Center of Los Angeles as an artist educator. Read More

I know everyone learns at different speeds so making sure they are comfortable yet challenging is important to me.Being able to know when the student is enjoying and not making it a chore is a key to helping and encouraging a student learn. Watching them progress in their insturment is rewarding in of itself and nothing is more satisfying. As the student starts to see him or herself accomplish each lesson I like to praise, push and encourage to keep on. Read More
