Hi! Im Kate! I am a jazz vocalist and instrumentalist and teacher from Houston TX. I started my musical journey at Houston's High School for the Performing and Visual arts where I concentrated my studies in flute, but ultimately fell in love with singing. I am a 2019-2022 Downbeat Magazine Student Music Award Winner, a 2018 2019 YoungArts Winner in jazz voice, and I've performed at various venues including the 2018 Newport Jazz Festival, 2022 SXSW Festival, and the world renowned Birdland Jazz Club in New York City. This enables the students to loosen the tension in the voice and to get out of their comfort zones. I began teaching trombone and improvisation when I was a junior in High School. Currently I am adept in Singing, Music Theory, Trombone, Bass (-classical) and Electronic Music, but I also practice Flute, Piano, Guitar,Percussion (congas) and Tap Dancing. I have been told that I have a very unconventional teaching style, but I prefer to call it simplicity. My teaching experience dates back to my undergraduate experience, where I vocal and music directed 6 student theater productions. This includes providing one-on-one vocal instruction for leads and ensemble members and teaching full vocal scores to ensembles of over 20. I was also the music director of my A Cappella group, so I have experience auditioning, training, and rehearsing a cappella singers. I am also a trained pianist and accompanist, so I provide tracks for students virtually and live accompaniment for in-person lessons and use these skills to provide piano lessons. Read More

Ive been teaching consistently for 10 years now. I taught all ages, from kindergarten kids to people over 60, kids with special needs, one on one classes, ensembles, full classrooms, and high school. If there's one thing that I learned throughout my career is that very student has a unique voice, so every voice needs to be approached in a unique way.
