I am a very hands-on teacher. We do lots of improvisation and call and response games and sometimes I turn on a record or even bring a guitar to jam with the student. Playing drums is a very visceral, tactile excersize, and I often tell students, "That right there,that is how it's supposed to sound! Memorize that feeling and try to recreate it everytime." For beginning students, I strive to teach the basics of music theory while learning the fundamentals of producing characteristic tone on their instrument. I typically start by working through the Essential Elements method book and introduce solos, ensembles, and orchestral excerps when appropriate. If the student is a part of a school or community ensemble, I work with the student on any pieces that their ensemble is preparing for performance. Read More

I am a lyric soprano, and have been performing and teaching for the past 35 years. I have performed opera, oratorio, Gilbert and Sullivan and concert repertoire. My particular interests are early music and 20th century art song. I teach at several different schools, and enjoy working with ages 13 through adult. I trained originally as a classical guitartist, and take guitar students from age 10 through adult. I also teach folk guitar. I have studied classical piano for several years and have taught a number of beginning piano students. Read More

I created a Washington State 501(C)(3) nonprofit for amateur adult singers and actors that included 3 choirs, a vocal jazz ensemble, voice workshops, vocal jazz workshops, and a theatrical troupe.
