I have been teaching for four years in many capacities, from teaching full bands, to working one on one with students of all ages. I have taught many older students who have a strong foundation in music, as well as young students with no music expierience at all. I have competed in competitions and been a featured soloist, and my love for music challenges me to be the best teacher I can be. Read More

Music lessons should be a playground for exploration! It is my job to meet students where they are and invite them to rise to new heights in their performance. Lessons are a series of small steps. The journey of learning music is a marathon, not a sprint. I work to gauge where students are coming from, attempting to engage the experience from all the different dimensions of their lives in order to create a pace that is meaningful and effective for each student. I prefer students come to me with contemporary songs they have interest in learning because it is so much easier to retain and develop a love for music when it's a song YOU want to learn. If a student doesn't have a song they want to learn at first, that's perfectly fine! I have a list of over 900 contemporary pop, rock, jazz, dance, musical theatre and video game songs that I am very familiar with for us to work on together. Read More

For all beginner students, I begin with the Essential Elements books. Once fingering and bowing have been introduced, I begin incorporating level-appropriate scales. These etudes and scales are vital for learning the technique necessary for more advanced pieces. Once the student has completed the first Essential Elements book, we then select a piece for them to play, and keep this as our main focus while continuing to work on scales and etudes. Read More

In 35 years of teaching, I've learned that everyone is different, and that is how it should be! The goals of teaching are the same for each student, but the process of achieving the goals is usually tailor made for each person. I love music, and it is always thrilling for me to hear progress as the weeks go by. I enjoy teaching because I feel I am working with the students to bring something good into their lives. Read More

I have helped people both young and old learn how to play bass guitar and perform with any band and in any style of music through private instruction. I have been teaching beginning to intermediate piano for the past 2 years and I have the same approach to teaching piano as I do the bass guitar and that is to play the instrument the way it's meant to be played. I have only one requirement as a teacher and that is, you must practice! Read More

For beginning students, I strive to teach the basics of music theory while learning the fundamentals of producing characteristic tone on their instrument. I typically start by working through the Essential Elements method book and introduce solos, ensembles, and orchestral excerps when appropriate. If the student is a part of a school or community ensemble, I work with the student on any pieces that their ensemble is preparing for performance. Read More
