I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. I'm currently an undergraduate student at the University of Wisconsin, Madison and I'm still playing piano in school and teaching piano part-time. Industry standard books will be assigned to the appropriate skill level. The scope for the beginner and intermediate level is to establish proper body, hand and fingering positions to facilitate and prepare for future and more complex music. The student will be encouraged as to select and play skill-based appropriate songs that are familiar and popular with them to keep piano lessons fun.   Flash or memory cards will be used to quickly bring the student up to speed for hand eye coordination with seeing the music note and playing the note on the piano. I started teaching my first student in 2008 when I was studying at the University of Washington. Since then my studio has really taken off and I find that I love teaching more and more! I have coached advanced adult students and taught many children (some starting as early as 5 years old). I've been teaching music, in some capacity, since I was 17 and captain of my highschool's drumline. In college I taught drumset lessons to students of all ages and in graduate school I taught a music theory course for 5 semesters as well as classical percussion to 6th - 8th graders. Getting to know my students, what they like and don't like, what they read and listen to, is one of my favorite things and I think it really helps engender a life long passion for music when a teacher takes a personal interest in the students lives. For teaching a beginning student, I prefer Music Tree by Frances Clark.It's a very good material for kids and it shows them the basics of music: rhythm, melody, and theory.
