I've taught voice at Northwest University for the past 5 years. In 2010, I joined the faculty of the Bellevue School of Music, and last fall began teaching at the Gene Nastri Community School of the Arts in Mukilteo. I also conduct a church choir. I believe strongly that it is important for anyone who sings to study classical technique, regardless of what style of singing they wish to do. I have performed at numerous venues, such as Stanford University, Benaroya Hall, and the Paramount Theatre. In high school, I won multiple awards and scholarships for my participation in school and community music programs. I have soloed with community and professional orchestras, including the Encanto Orchestra, the Issaquah Philharmonic, and the Rainbow City Orchestra. As a orchestra member, I have played with numerous professional and community orchestras in the Seattle Area, sometimes holding leadership positions - I currently play with the Everett Philharmonic. No single approach works with every student when teaching drums. There are simply too many styles and methods to choose from. But when working with beginners, I tend to focus mostly on developing a good internal sense of rhythm and good listening skills. Then if the student wishes, we may specialize in classical, jazz, rock, latin, or whatever style the student is interested in. I began teaching in high school, working with elementary and middle school students. Through this experience, I discovered my passion for helping others discover music. In my first full-time teaching position, I was able to to lead the Greenland (AR) High School band to the ASBOA Sweepstakes Award, the highest honor for a school band in that state. I will casually introduce and regularly reinforce music theory concepts to give the student a general understanding of what they are learning and how everything connects, enabling them with the ability to learn music by listening to a piece and reading rudimentary chords, as opposed to being locked in to only reading sheet music. Thanks to the power of the internet, it tends to be incredibly easy to find reliable sheet music, chords and YouTube videos that I can send the student home with to practice in their free time. I studied piano as a child, l year at WSU, l year at MSM and 3 months with Olga Sukhover in Seattle l year studyiing piano at UW I played flute in the Issaquah Chamber Orchestra, the UW Band, and Clarinet with Ballard Civic Orchestra (Latino) and with Seattle Symphonic Band I studied clarinet at Northwestern, Manhattan School of music, and University of Washington, and WSU.
