I discovered my musical interests and performance abilities through private piano lessons, dance classes, private voice lessons, and musical theatre acting workshops. I began my teaching experience as an assistant instructor/choreographer for the StarBright! Youth Musical Theatre classes at a local community theatre. During my undergraduate studies, I was an opera acting coach at Baldwin Wallace under Opera Director, Benjamin Wayne Smith. During the first lesson I have the student sing (if it is a vocal lesson) their favorite song so I can hear them. After that i use my keyboard and take the student through some excersizes to really home in on that range. I listen for qualities and we discuss the positives and what improvements are needed. After the first lesson we choose music: a classical art song book and theory book of my choosing, and a songbook of the student's choosing. Read More

I began teaching during my Masters. I have taught at the Forte Music School in Toledo, and a few lessons privately. Now that I have graduated I plan on taking more time to dedicate to building my voice studio. I thrive on making a fun, warm, comfortable environment for my students. I do tailor my music lessons for the individual student. There really is no making a general statement for a specific person. There are, however, some very fundamental aspects of learning music for all people which will definitely include practicing and mastering scales of all type, performing with others, and using the ears to truly listen to intervals and the emotions that are invoked by performing certain keys in specific styles. I have been passionate instructor and have been playing multi instruments for 15+ years. I graduated with a degree in Psychology and work as an ABA Therapist for autistic children. I have been in multiple bands and recorded a lot of songs. I have toured Michigan and the outer areas. I have had the opportunity to play at the Majestic Theater in Detroit, as well as St. Andrew's. I believe in student-driven goal setting, so my students and I set a goal for each lesson. This allows them to push themselves but staying comfortable while doing so. Students will learn at their own pace while being supported and encouraged to push themselves outside of their comfort zones.
