I grew up around music, so it is a huge part of my life. I have been playing the drums, piano, and organ for over 20 years, and singing even longer and teaching/coaching/instructing for 10 years. I have performed in (literally) thousands of events, including concerts, church and memorial services, weddings, funerals, parties, theme park openings, and national/international conferences across many states and countries, to include NY City/State, WA, TX, NE, GA, FL, NC, VA, MD, NJ, PA, IA, DE, CT, and also in Germany, Japan, England, and Qatar, with over 3,000 students/mentees. I have been instructing students in voice for a year now. I have worked with kids as young as 6 years old to high school level. I encourage consistent and regular practice, but also breaks and time to ask questions if one is stuck and not sure what to do. I mainly use classical style techniques and songs to build strong vocal instruments, but I also reference and use genres that individual students prefer to sing to keep their interest and build their love for singing. I was always able to sing. I started piano in the 5th grade. I played trumpet in high school and made all state band 3 years in a row. I attended college at Houston Baptist University where I received a full scholarship to study music. Once I graduated I was immediately hired to do a national tour which was followed by 5 others. Once the students understand the music concepts properly, at the late beginner level I transition them to Nancy and Randall Faber's Piano Adventures. For teens and adult beginners (age 11 and up), I use the books specially complied for older beginners then progress to level three or above. I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun for the appropriate level(s). I like Mayron Cole piano method because it provide solid progression for rhythm counting, systematic build up for sight reading as well as introducing key concepts in music theory/history/genre.
