In my voice lessons, I want to feel that the student is doing what they want to do, not just what I tell them. With this in mind, I work with the student to find songs or pieces that they want to try and sing. If it is an appropriate level of difficulty, we will work on it straight away. My experience with vocal coaching started when I was a young girl helping to teach my church's choir parts for songs we had to learn. Once I went to college I joined the Gospel Chorale at Virginia State University where I helped guide the alto section for a month long European Christmas tour. I love working with younger students because it's important to remind them of the importance of exercising your vocal chords properly. I also discuss the importance of eating the right healthy foods to maintain a healthy voice and lifestyle. I often invite the students to my events to encourage them to continue to be disciplined and learn all they can while they're young.
