I spend about a third of the lesson on specific technique work and I always encourage students to bring in their own material that we can work on as well. Generally, I like to discuss what kind of music the students are interested in studying first. Then, after vocalizing and assessing the voice, I'll start the students with English art songs or 24 Italian Songs Arias, or some classic music theater repertoire. Helping a student become passionate about music is the most rewarding thing I can get from teaching. I set realistic goals that help the student progress at a rate geared towards the student's own pace. Positive feedback helps instill a desire to continue working and practicing regularly. This also pushes the student to wish to learn and work on more challenging materials. By learning where each student draws his/her own inspiration, I tailor our lessons to their goals while opening up their possibilities to go even further than what the student thought possible. After high school, she earned a Music/Business Administration degree from Millikin University, a certification in audio engineering from the Conservatory of Recording Arts Sciences, and an MBA in e-Business from the University of Phoenix.
