As natural as a singing voice can be it still takes effort and hard work to maintain your sound or keep yourself relevant. I self taught myself a lot. Through this self teaching I was able to help others go through the same process a little easier. I spent hours if not shut ins (days of just soaking and singing) editing and correcting my tone. I teach speech skills acquisition from a kinesthetic and descriptive basis rather than an arbitrary linguistic standard, in order to respect the individual and focus on what is fundamentally useful to the artistic process— “the ability to adapt”. My role is to add to a student's repertoire of skills, not to diminish the student's sense of what is appropriate or possible on stage. By explicitly addressing both the objective facts of vocal production and the subjective nature of vocal experience in my teaching, I help the students to free themselves to learn in a way that suits the individual situation.
