For beginning students I use the Bastien System. For Adults, I use The Alfred Adult beginner for Piano Lessons. I try to adapt the method to the skill of the student, which incorporates my own system, based on years of teaching. I teach according to the student;s skill, and at their own pace. I worked as an adjunct voice professor for 5 years at Texas Southern University (TSU) before joining Houston Baptist University (HBU) as a full-time voice faculty in 2017. At HBU, my job duties extensively include: teaching individual voice students as well as lecturing group classes daily, advising students, teaching masterclasses; creating programs; directing various concerts weekly, and collaborating with both local and international artists and organizations. For beginning students who are children, I start with Hal Leonards Essential Elements (or the Hal Leonard Guitar Method for guitar students) to build a strong foundation in reading music, proper technique, tone production, and fundamental skills. Once students have a solid grasp of the basics, I introduce age-appropriate solo repertoire to develop confidence and prepare them for their first recital performance.
