Like I said, every lesson is specific to the student. I don't use a "method" on all my students. I can teach classical music and technicality, to jazz songs and improvisation, to songwriting and pop/folk oriented style of playing. I try to give accurate and appropriate material to students depending on their needs and interests. Read More

My teaching style really depends on the student taking the lessons. It's important to set realistic goals each week for students that way they can progress at his or her own pace. Recognizing accomplishments goes a long way to fuel a student's desire to progress and makes the student coming back to learn more. By finding out what inspires the student to play, I can tailor my methods to their own wants and needs. Read More

I am a versatile singer and instructor who loves working with students of all ages. I have a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance from Southern Methodist University in Dallas with minors in Musical Theater and Songwriting. While in Dallas, I performed with various professional Equity musical theater companies including Casa Manana, Lyric Stage and Theater Three. I am also able to perform in the classical realm, as a soloist in performances of Faure's Requiem, Saint-Seans' Christmas Oratorio and as Papageno in Mozart's Die Zauberflote. Read More

For my piano students, I like to use a mixture of books from the Alfred, Bastien, and John W. Schaum collections. I eventually assign more advanced solo repertoire as the student progresses. For my vocal students, I pick music based on their interests and vocal qualities. I have taught my students musical theater, opera, art song, gospel, pop, and many other styles throughout the years. I also like to make sure my students have a solid understanding in music theory and often give out worksheets that help them practice how to sight read, recognize different key signatures, and more. My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 9 years ago and have been consistently teaching student in my studio for the last 2 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key point I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for singing. I've also found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy singing and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. Read More
Instruments: Voice
I began teaching voice lessons my senior year of high school. When I got to college I began work as a show choir director in Hartford, CT. I have learned so much from my students. I have learned to teach in a way that students of all ages will understand. An example of this is teaching a young student how to use their head voice when singing high notes. This is important because a student can damage their vocal cords if they use chest voice high up in the scale. Read More
