Instruments: Cello
For beginning students who are children, for the first lesson i usually ask them to play whatever they have in hand then base on the standard to assign basic practice from the Suzuki cello books. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. Read More

For beginning woodwind students, I have had success using the Rubank method books as a starter. Alongside a method book, I like to work on material chosen by the student, as well as my own supplemntal exercises. It is important for the student to understand the musical concepts associated with the repertoire, as well as focusing on performing well. I also prefer to have my students keep a practice log book, in order to track their progress. For piano and music theory, I like to use the John Thompson method for beginner students, and the Bastien Piano Literature series for more advanced students. Read More

Teaching requires time and effort but it also needs to be fun, therefore my lessons have both components, while setting up short and long term goals we explore music in fun ways that allows for self expression and we stay focused by having a clear goal for every lesson. We will keep a journal where we will be recording our achievements, homeworks and general progress. We will use students ideas for songs they are interested in learning as well as some of my own suggestions for repertoire. Read More

There’s a million different approaches, and we’ll find the one(s) that work best for you. Everyone (even more traditional classical players) tend to take their own path to guitar mastery. This is in part why new techniques and styles of playing are popping up all the time! When starting out, I like to lay a good foundation; teaching students proper hand positioning and posture first. I like to combine this with some single string exercises and some basic chords and strumming patterns that can be used musically, and applied to learning parts or simplified versions of songs the student is familiar with and enjoys listening to. Hi everyone!! I'm a musician, drummer, and drum instructor with over 56 years experience. I look forward to working with all my new students through this platform. It's an honor and a privilege to be listed here and part of this group of talented musicians and instructors. As a drummer, I've been influenced by many and taught by the pros. One of my most memorable instructors was the late great Charles (Charlie) Perry, author of many indispensable drum books including the Art of Modern Jazz Drumming, Rockin' Bass Drum Books 1 & 2, Drum Solos in Triplets, Introduction to the Drum Set, and 8 Men in Search of a Drummer. My teaching philosophy is rooted in fostering both technical proficiency and creative expression. To achieve this, I employ a combination of established techniques and personalized approaches: Using the George L. Stone stick control book as a foundational tool, I promote limb independence and improve technical skills. This classic method helps students develop precise control and coordination, essential for any percussionist. Understanding that each student is unique, I create customized exercises that cater to their individual strengths and areas for improvement. Read More
