My teaching style revolves around the individual student. Every student must practice daily and enjoy practicing, so astudent's success comes from my encouragement and instruction. Each student brings a desire to learn how to play an instrument and my goal is to assist them in understanding and being able to playthat instrument. I conistently tailor my instruction to the student's ability and also remain consistent in my standards of teaching. Read More

Maintaining vocal health is my number one priority, no matter the level. I can help you achieve a healthy belt or expand your range. Placement is key! I start every lesson with 30 minutes of vocal warm-ups and encourage you to warm-up on your own between lessons. Your voice is a muscle and it needs to be taken care of. If you have an audition to prepare for, whether it is a college music program or a stage performance, I can help you choose the correct material and make sure you are at your best. Read More

I approach teaching first and foremost from a mindset of love for music. I try to encourage the same passion for music in my students that I have myself. I believe in the importance of music in our society and in our lives and aim to relay that in my lessons. I also believe it is important to help each student feel important and respected in our lessons. I approach each lesson with energy and commitment to each student. Read More

My teaching style is relaxed and organic. Don't get me wrong, we will work hard! But it will be fun and enriching. I teach my students to appreciate the music they make, and to listen to themselves for what is working well, in addition to what can be improved. At the end of each lesson, the student and I collaborate to make goals for daily practice. Every few weeks, my students and I collaborate on goals for next few weeks and the next few months. My approach as a teacher is to see what the voice is already doing and improve on the foundation that we already have. All music-making is positive music-making. My students love that I laugh and chat with them during our lessons. I primarily teach Musical theater and characterization, but I can also teach classical music and diction (languages). I believe that style, voice phenomenons, language/diction, artistic innovation, decision-making, characterization, and active choice-making are the best ways to get someone to make great music. My method varies depending on the student. If the student wants a traditional musical approach, and is interested in learning notation and theory, then we will usually start with the Hal Leonard Book Series. If the student doesn’t want to learn notes or the more advanced musical concepts, I usually just start by teaching them simple songs that they know from the radio, TV Shows or movies. Something to get them really excited about learning and practicing, and songs that they recognize and can show others. Read More

My first teaching experience was part of a college class over 10 years ago when as part of the coursework we had to "student teach." Between the anatomy and physiology we were learning, an introduction to various vocal pedagogies, and gaining an understanding of the psychological components of voice study, I was hooked, and I haven't stopped. I taught voice at the university's community music school for a few years, while simultaneously teaching at Trinity University in Washington, DC, as well as at a girls' boarding school. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
