for beginning students who are children and just starting out, i typically start with the basic elements of either voice or guitar, depending on which lesson you have chosen. once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire which is age - appropriate of course, in hopes of preparing them for a first recital, perhaps. for adults, i try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. As a recent graduate, I am still pretty new at this! However, I am incredibly motivated and confident that you will benefit greatly from the skills I have to offer. My educational experience includes; volunteer work at Eisenhower Middle School in Manhattan, KS; observation of Buhler High School's choral department; private voice lessons with two college age males at K-State; and a current position as a para at Lawrence High School. The ultimate goal for me is to help my students develop a life long love and passion for music. I want my students to develop a first- hand appreciation for the creation of music and use it as a way to problem solve in other aspects of their lives. In order to do this, I set small goals each week that allow us to track progress through time. A lot of times regardless of age, students will come to me initially self conscious and afraid that they're terrible. Read More

I’m a recent college graduate with a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy. I started taking piano lessons when I was eight years old, and continued lessons through high school and for a few semesters in college. I started singing in choir when I was 10 years old, and have been in one or more choirs ever since! I started taking private voice lessons in high school and decided to choose voice as my college major. Read More

I don't believe in a one size fits all mentality for music education, I've often seen this approach derail students from enjoying the process and eventually terminating their relationship with music overall. Students are a case-by-case basis, and in that regard, each lesson is catered to the students actual goals and interests. I believe in training our ears and our sense of rhythm to a point where the student can figure things out and make artistic decisions on their own and use lessons, less as a tutorial, but as a source of inspiration to pursue the things that brought them here in the first place. Every student, regardless of their goals or current ability level, will work on vocal exercises, songs, and sightreading. The choice of repertoire will depend on each student's technical ability, range, experience with foreign language, and other factors such as personality and acting experience. If a student has an interest in a particular genre of music, I am always glad to explore his/her personal interests (as long as the style uses healthy, supported singing!). Read More
