I have most recently had the opportunity to teach a college course at CalArts, private lessons to college level students at the institute, and group voice classes to K-3rd graders through the Community Arts Partnership. I am passionate about working with people of all ages, and helping them grow as musicians and develop a lifelong love of music.  After I graduated college in 2004, I went on to teach music in Wisconsin, Hawaii, and now Washington. I have taught voice lessons to a wide range of students of different ages and abilities, and have also taught beginning piano lessons. In addition to music, I am also a psychology researcher and have studied and published articles on experimental educational psychology practices. In most of my lessons, I use one of several piano methods, which I supplement with additional materials, chosen according to the student's musical preferences and goals. My preferred courses for beginning students are Alfred, Faber and Bastien. I always include music theory, as it is fundamental to appreciating and understanding the music, and it allows students to learn the basics of improvisation. For beginning students within the elementary age who are interested in voice lessons, I usually focus on learning notes,rhythms,a few basic piano skills, and breathing. I will also focus on singing favorite songs and telling the story of each song. For older students, singing technique and song interpretation are what I like to focus on.
