For all students, I begin with classical fundamentals such as body alignment, breath support, and resonance and moving to topics including diction, vocal health, interpretation, and stage presence. I will work with the student to find repertoire that will best fit their voice, help achieve their musical goals, and be aligned with what they enjoy musically. I would love to find opportunities for students to perform their repertoire and show what they have learned whether that is a private recital for family and friends or a voice competition. Read More

I typically half my lessons between music reading and theory skills and working on their song or songs, and I normally assign a listening example, music reading assingment, and encourage daily practice. I do not punish a student for incomplete homework, however I stress that the homework I assign is to help them on their musical journey. When preparing for a performance or audition I spend the lesson fine-tuning their repetoire. Read More

One of the things I love most is the shock of parents and students who expect that either they themselves are going to dread the lessons or practice session or that their child will give up and hate practicing. Parents and students tell me how exciting they are to come each week and hit each milestone. I make learning fun! Simple as that. I have had so many students over the years who are so nervous and timid about playing or singing and by the time we get to the first recital, they are confident and light up on the stage. Read More

Examples of materials we will examine are breath management, tone production, diction, enunciation, articulation, acting, speaking, theory and history. We will also address other musical ideas or issues that the student my have. Read More

Each individual learns at his/her own pace in his/her own way. Getting to know my students with a free consultation helps me get an appropriate lesson plan together. Once started, I am always thinking about how to fine-tune things as we go. I like to cover a variety of material during our practices, but make sure to send you home with your own folder of print-outs for personal reference. Read More

I generally start with a Q & A to get a feel for the artist and what their true intent is, then I go for the kill. I need to know the who, what, where, when and why of the music industry in their own words. The how part is what we will work on together to achieve the goal. Pen and Pad has always been tradition when writing a song, but I recommend some app to where your created work is automatically dated. Read More
