I normally start out with the Faber and Faber Piano Adventures methods books for the piano students. This includes a lesson book and a theory book. The lesson book will teach the student the physical skill of playing piano by presenting them with leveled songs to learn. The theory book will focus more on the mechanics of music and playing and require some written work. These two methods work very well together to give the student a comprehensive experience with the piano. Read More

We are all different. Each student has their own pace of learning. So, I encourage this with setting up realistic goals for each student. Every lesson, I write memos about assignemnts, and student's progress compare to previous lesson/week. Therefore, students and parents will receive "Progress Results" in every four lessons. I like to learn what my students musical interests are as soon as possible and then to do all I can to nurture that. Since music is something which is played for an audience its important to find them an audience to perform for . It can be just mom and dad, the Girl Scouts campfire sing along, a jam session at the local coffeehouse or sitting in at a blues or jazz jam if no formal recitals are available. Read More

For beginning students who are younger I typically start with Faber and Faber's Piano Adventures. If a student is older I will put them in the accelerated method or the adult method. I will sometimes supplement with Alfred's Premier series or Music Tree. Once a student has progressed to a certian level, I will introduce other piano literature to supplement the method book learning. I try to best fist the goals of my students whether that is starting from the beginning with traditional piano lessons or to achieve some other goal or purpose. Read More

Instruments: Piano Organ Keyboard

My preferred methodology uses the Alfred series books, as well as the Faber Piano Adventure series as supplemental material. I use a combination of note names and intervals to teach reading skills. I also like to incorporate theory into every lesson. Once we have the basics down, I like the student to tell me what he/she would enjoy playing, and I'll do my best to incorporate that, or something similar to that.  Also, I prefer that the student have access to a real piano rather than a keyboard.
