I recently finished my studies to receive my Bachelor of Music in Music Therapy degree from Sam Houston State University. At SHSU I gained experience working with a variety of clientele including those diagnosed with autism, dementia, traumatic brain injury (TBI), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and spina bifida. I also provided live percussion music with the Creative Movement Program with the dance department at Sam Houston State University. I hope that in the near future I can own my own private studio where I can host music lessons and music therapy sessions. Read More

My teaching style is just like most I think. I don't rush with the students. Always trying to go slow and make sure the students understands everything. I've gotten pretty good at figuring out when the students get what I'm trying to teach. If I feel like I'm going to fast I'll stop think about what I'm doing and slow down. It's easy to talk to fast and rush as a teacher because I've taught so many students. Read More

I believe communication is of the upmost importance. I communicate with parents to let them know how the student is doing, what we are working on, and what to do next. As mentioned above, I tailor to my student's needs based on their understanding and pace. Some students move a little slower than others in certain areas, and some move faster. For example, one student of the same age may understand sheet music quickly, but have a hard time with scales. Read More

Just like homeschooling, students will learn individually at their own pace. Students must enjoy their lesson. Sometimes the students may find it discouraging but it is my mission to give them acknowledgment in their accomplishments and nurturing so they can continue to flourish and be the best musicians they can be. In order to succeed at the keyboard, a student's technique must be ahead of their literature. This is why I use a well-developed system of technical exercises that are easy to understand and implement that allows the student to quickly gain mastery of the instrument. These techniques were thoroughly developed and taught by my mentor, Dr. Jill Sprenger, and I have seen students of all types succeed with them. I also use a self-paced program of theory skills and ear-training exercises that complement the wide variety of literature that excites each student. Read More

My main goal and teaching is to inspire self motivation and make it fun! I like to pick songs that are fun to play and challenging at the same time depending on what level you are at that time. By doing this I think keeping the instrument out and not in the closet is a good start that way if the inspiration hits you and you want to play it is within your reach "guitar stand and wall hangers are ideal" and not in the case the put away " Out of sight out of mind" I suggest buying a music stand for your instruments and or wall hangers which seem to work very well as a display and also so the instrument is within your reach.
