ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:
Berklee College of Music, Electronic Production & Design, (attended from 2012-2014)
Awards:
2012 - Berklee College of Music Merit Scholarship
Overview:
I am a prolific 24-year-old multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, and music producer from Dallas/Ft. Worth, Texas who is passionate about sharing my love for music and creative expression with others. Having played music my whole life, and having explored computer-based music production for a decade now, I pursued guitar studies at Berklee College of Music with a primary emphasis on jazz while enrolled in the Electronic Production & Design program. In 2014, I left school, working briefly as a QA tester and audio hardware and software developer for SONiVOX, a subsidiary company of music industry leader inMusic (mother company of AKAI, Alesis, Numark, Air, etc.). I moved to the Berkshire Mountains of Western Massachusetts in early 2015 and relocated back to Dallas/Ft. Worth in late 2017. For the past several years, I've been blessed with the opportunity to perform across the country and beyond, to facilitate interactive music workshops, to teach private lessons, and to provide original music and sound design for documentaries, films, animations, and more. In 2014, I initiated my solo project Starseed, featuring original electronic compositions infused with guitar and vocals. Since that time, I have released 8 albums and a number of singles as an independent artist and have shared the stage with renowned acts such as Govinda, Jade Cicada, Jackson Whalan, and others; have offered performances at a wide variety of venues and festivals across the planet, including GeoParadise Tribal Gathering, MindBodySpirit Festivals, Frendly Gathering, MycoSymbiotics Mushroom and Arts Festival, Mystery Trance Festival, and many more; and have been featured on major blogs such as Jamsphere and Emerging Indie Bands. I am always seeking to push the boundaries of creative expression, to honor the sacredness of play, and to pay homage to the timeless, infinite, and multidimensional dance of creation.
EXPERIENCE
With 20+ years of experience with guitar, vocals, drums, and percussion, and a stylistic reach that includes everything from jazz, blues, hip-hop, R&B, funk, and soul to classic rock, pop, singer-songwriter, Latin, reggae, world music, and beyond, I will assist you in cultivating the essential tools to take your musical journey to the next level, regardless of your age and musical background. Beginning in grade school when I started giving lessons to friends and family members, I have taught students from all walks of life; have had students that were young, old, and everything in between; and have taught both individuals who had never even touched an instrument in their lives and students who had been playing for many years. Whatever it is that you may desire to explore, be it music theory, improvisation, composition, instrumental techniques, playing in a group setting, or just learning your favorite song, it would be an honor and a delight to provide lessons that are enriching, engaging, informative, and most importantly, fun!
METHODS USED
For beginners, I will start lessons by assisting them to become familiar with their instrument and to learn all the names of the various parts of the instrument. All lessons will be catered to what it is that the student is excited to explore, be it music theory, instrumental techniques, improvisation, composition, arrangement, ear training, transcription, reading, playing in a group setting, or just learning a favorite song. In terms of lessons material, I will guide students when and where necessary and do have traditional modalities of approaching lessons that I will employ if I feel the student is lacking direction (i.e. Jamey Aebersold material for jazz), but I always want to allow students to decide what it is that they are seeking to get out of lessons to whatever extent is possible. I feel my job is to assist students in developing their own musical identity and to be there to nurture and support them in their process however I am able to do so.
LESSON STYLE
For me, the most amazing aspect of teaching music is to assist students in developing a musical identity of their own. Nothing could be a greater blessing than to experience students cultivating a personal and profound relationship with the magic of music firsthand, and to be there to help them to further their passion is a gift beyond what I am capable of expressing in words. By sharing the musical knowledge I have gathered throughout my life in lessons that are dynamic and adaptable yet consistent in terms of supporting students' growth, it is my intention to help to nourish students' own love for music, just as others have inspired me to do the same.
