I generally use the Alfred series for teaching piano. For teaching voice I may use a combination of books based on what style of music the student wants to focus on the most. For guitar, violin and clarinet, I use typical beginner books that introduce the fundamental fingerings, chords and notes for that particular instrument as well as basic music terminology. In addition, I sometimes create some of my own unique exercises and materials to supplement these books based on the student's needs. Read More

I believe we are most productive when we keep a positive mindset. I try to let encouragement be the foundation of my teaching. I truly want you to reach your highest singing potential, which will happen with consistent practice. Each lesson will consist of vocal exercises which should be recorded so that the student can practice with it throughout the week. And then we will work together to choose songs that will help reinforce your new, healthy technique. Read More

I try to get to know each student a little in the introduction/first lesson. I ask about their music goals and where they would like to be in a few months to a year. We talk about their favorite styles of music and artists. I am so excited to see my students progress and learn a new chord, play a new song well, sing a more challenging song, increase their vocal range, and become excited about their new musical skills! I take a physiological approach to singing...after all it is a physical endeavor. The voice or larynx, despite all it complexities, is just another set of muscles that can be trained to reach its fullest potential. The method I teach, “The Franco/Italian Bel Canto Method” has been taught in Europe for more than 200 years and has produced the world’s greatest classical singers. Now, having said that let me assure you that studying this method doesn’t mean you have to become a classical singer. The techniques used are designed to strengthen and improve the quality of the human voice and can be applied to any genre whether your goal is “Broadway,” “American Idol” or you simply want to improve your voice for your own personal satisfaction. The method also addresses all things associated with singing, such as breathing, posture and stage presence. Read More

I currently sing with a number of professional choral ensembles in the DFW area, including The Verdigris Ensemble and the Texas Voices. Read More

For beginners, I will start lessons by assisting them to become familiar with their instrument and to learn all the names of the various parts of the instrument. All lessons will be catered to what it is that the student is excited to explore, be it music theory, instrumental techniques, improvisation, composition, arrangement, ear training, transcription, reading, playing in a group setting, or just learning a favorite song. In terms of lessons material, I will guide students when and where necessary and do have traditional modalities of approaching lessons that I will employ if I feel the student is lacking direction (i.e. Read More

Teaching Voice is 90% being a cheerleader and the other 10% technique. Voice is so mental because the instrument is apart of us. This fact is why I love teaching voice so much. I love cheering my students on to first find their natural talent, and then polish their talent with different technique and methods. I also realize that there are many different styles of music, and I would never hinder my students from pursuing whatever style is their passion. Read More
