My teaching style is simple and basic. I encourage them to bring water and recording devices. I remind them to keep a positive attitude before we start. We always begin with breathing exercises, scale exercises, warm ups and resonance strengthen and vocal agility. I encourage them to understand how important it is to use your diaphragm to transition in the head voice for great tones and control. I teach the students how to use the resonance to increase tone and volume and use the head voice for less tone and volume. Read More

For beginning piano players I use Alfred's Basic music Library Books, which is a great course! There are books for children level, as well as adult books, which may be accompanied by a workbook and a recital book. Depending on the students level, I try to accomplish completing 1-2 pages in the book each lesson. For voice lessons, I use a variety of vocal warm ups and breathing techniques to help students prepare for songs of their choice. Read More

For beginning students both children and adults, I typically start with Bruce Pearson's Standard of Excellence books. Once my younger students have progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I begin to introduce solo repertoire that is appropriate for their first recital performance. Once the adults have progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I try to find out what the student is interested in and guide my instruction towards that interest, all while keeping the lessons engaging and fun. I began teaching at Derby Yamaha Music School, UK, coaching classes and private lessons for voice and piano. After leaving England, I began teaching at Pladd Dot Music, Statesboro. Here, I taught many students both voice and piano. Two in particular required coaching in their respective pageant and regional championship. Working together on technique etc, the students gained the title of Miss Hummingbird, as well as qualification to Miss Georgia, and qualification to regional championship this summer (2016). TashaRenee was 3 years old singing her first solo, “God Is”, at church and she hasn’t shut up since. She says “singing is just a part of who I am."  TashaRenee is a great eclectic vocalist that has been singing all of her life.  Although she has gospel roots, she decided to learn more about music as an undergraduate and graduate student in the Music-vocal performance degree programs.  She has been a part of several casts in Operas across the nation, with her professional Opera debut being the Strawberry Woman in Porgy and Bess in New Orleans, Louisiana.
