Instruments: Piano Voice
I have different methods for piano and voice: depending on the level of the piano student, I will use Faber method books and supplement performance pieces, technique lessons, games, theory discussions, etc. I do not use method books with voice students, although I do have a curriculum that I follow and adjust depending on the level and age of the voice student. I believe that while beginning and intermediate students continue to learn, it is important for them to practice different genres on their instrument -- this allows them to speak different musical languages, improves their understanding of style, and gives them a better context for their own gifts and interests. I've been singing, playing drums, and piano for the past twelve years. My students have consistently received high honors in solo and ensemble performances, as well as singing, leads in school and area productions. My piano students develop good beginning technique and theory skills that help prepare them as they move into the advanced repertoire. Both my piano and voice students perform in competitions regularly. Read More

I find that this reflection also promotes positive self-monitoring, self-motivation, and a deeper investment for most students. I also consider open-mindedness a key factor in the success rate for vocal students. Each individual has a different experience while singing, and to hone in on this uniqueness is paramount, though tricky. Trying new ideas, new exercises, new genres, new languages, etc. is how we can best challenge our instrument to reach new heights and feats we may not have even considered before. Read More
