For beginning piano students, I love using Alfred lesson books. I like focusing on scales and using proper technique. For violin, I like using Suzuki, but I dont use Suzuki method. Focus is on scales and simple solo rep. I encourage composition at all ages and love finding a system that works for the individual student. Regular practice is encouraged. I began teaching private music lessons in college in 2003. I have been teaching lessons consistently for the last 10 years from my home studio, online, as well as traveling to the students' home. I find great pleasure in hearing a student's progress, that's why I encourage recording their practice and having a consistent practice schedule. I try to have as much fun as possible while still maintaining a high expectiation of performance.  I am, by trade and training, a comedian, so jokes and laughter abound. Initially, I assess students at their level and accept their level. Then, we establish a clear goal and assess the reasonable steps to achieve this goal. Each lesson is personally tailored to the students needs, with a focus on where that individual student needs to grow. I believe that the lesson time is not simply a time to "practice", but it is a time to assess if the student is practicing correctly outside of class throughout the week. Read More
