As I continued to direct and teach both Music and Musical Theatre in college and as a professional I decided to take on private students in 2005 and have loved every moment of teaching my private students. In 1984 I was a music instructor for the Canadian Forces School of Music in Esquimalt British Columbia. Over the last three decades I have taught one-on-one lessons and ensembles at all levels including Elementary, Middle, and High School levels. I am a very big proponent of adaptable teaching, specifically adjusting to the students, wants, needs and goals. I love teaching students what THEY want to learn, and applying my knowledge of music theory and instrument theory in a fun and applicable way to their interests, thereby making music theory less of a snore and chore, while also getting the students excited for more. I love highlighting students excellence and seeing the joy of finally nailing something they've practiced, but even more so I love working through aspects that are particularly challenging for a student, as the reward is even greater after doing so.
