When working with beginning students who are children, I typically start with the Alfred series. This method offers a comprehensive approach to learning the fundamentals of music, including rhythm, note reading, and instrumental techniques. As the student gains confidence and develops a solid understanding of these basics, I gradually introduce them to solo repertoire that is well-suited for their first recital performance. This not only helps them apply what theyve learned but also builds their performance skills and stage presence. Read More

I like to think I have a nurturing yet no-nonsense approach to teaching. Most of my students desire to be professional singers, and I intend to help them Reach that goal. It's important to cultivate a student's musical knowledge by building upon their current foundation. Similar to the way children learn a language, music students of all ages should start by listening and singing/playing before learning to read and even write. Combining this natural approach with a focus on how and why to develop good technique helps students get the results they're looking for. Read More

Breathing is my main focus because without breath there is no voice no sound. Read More

For beginning piano players I use Alfred's Basic music Library Books, which is a great course! There are books for children level, as well as adult books, which may be accompanied by a workbook and a recital book. Depending on the students level, I try to accomplish completing 1-2 pages in the book each lesson. For voice lessons, I use a variety of vocal warm ups and breathing techniques to help students prepare for songs of their choice. Read More
