My methods are the ones that works more for the student. For some reason some methods work better with certain people. One method can be tedious for a student and easy and fun for another. Hal Leonard's can be a good tool. I can use to many different books. Also I can write down specific exercises special for the student. Some times a student can learn faster without a book. Read More

My name is Annie Hoffman and I was born with an indescribable passion for music that I long to share with others who have a strong desire to learn! First of all, I would ask the student if music would be his/her career or just a hobby. If it is to be his/her career, my approach would be more theoretical. For young students, I use a Suzuki Method hybrid, meaning I incorporate additional note-reading and music theory elements while using the Suzuki Violin books and Suzuki's core values of imitation and ear training. I also supplement with many pieces outside of the Suzuki Method, including folk, blues, fiddle, and other styles. As students progress I include traditional etudes, technique studies and scales. My ultimate goal is to give my students all the tools they need to play and learn pieces on their own, and to that end I ensure they fully comprehend and master each step of learning before introducing new concepts. Each student is different. At first I try to see what's their passion, how much farther they want to learn, what style would they prefer, and more things about their preferences. For the beginners it's very important to learn step by step. But at the same time I always find out a unique way to entertain by performing a peace for them, and/or play along with them or play an accompaniment for them. Read More

I received my Bachelors of Music in violin performance from the University of Redlands. I will be starting school in July to receive my Masters in music education from Longy School of music. I have always wanted to teach and it is important for my students to enjoy the love of music. I feel it is important to perform as well so they understand that I still need to work hard to stay a strong musician. Read More

I know everyone learns at different speeds so making sure they are comfortable yet challenging is important to me.Being able to know when the student is enjoying and not making it a chore is a key to helping and encouraging a student learn. Watching them progress in their insturment is rewarding in of itself and nothing is more satisfying. As the student starts to see him or herself accomplish each lesson I like to praise, push and encourage to keep on. Read More
