I use multiples methods. One of them is the Susuki method. I consider that is a good method for beginners with a lot of techniques exercises and also includes pieces. For me it is essential that a student learn first all the techniques exercises and then start to create music. After that I started to teach how to respect the essential aspects in a piece: the fingering, the bowing, the dynamics, the tempo and others. Read More

When teaching music (or anything), I always attempt to meet the students where they are: For example, when teaching a young beginner, I m a young beginner, I would probably explain the scale by singing the, "Doe, a Deer," song (from The sound of Music) - everyone knows that. I try to keep things light, simple and fun, while challenging at the same time. I also try to help students cheive their targeted goal, as most people have a favorite song or style of music in mind that they want to learn. Read More

I really covered this in the above information,so continuing in more detail,it really depends on each individual student, their level of ability and age that determine the course of study. It also depends on the instrument. Some instruments like piano, violin or viola, books are more practical because the music is notated. With most fretted instruments, music is written in tableture which was originally used for the lute and brought back i think in the 1970s.Its easier than reading music and is more practical for those instruments. Throughout the process, I also integrate tidbits of music theory and history to give the student a more well-rounded experience.  As for guitar and piano, I normally take a more custom approach to teaching that tends to not revolve around any specific method book. However, I typically teach beginning pianists and guitarists how to read through and play simple pieces of music so that they understand the fundamentals before moving on to a mix of songs or pieces that I select and songs or pieces that the student wishes to play so as to keep things fresh and exciting.  Read More
