Since then, I have studied with several teachers of the New Jersey Symphony as well as graduates of the Juliard School in New York. I try to find the passion for a style of music and bring it out in my students while connecting that style to other styles to show the student that styles are idiosynchratic, but that they can also interchange with other styles. For beginner students, I like to work on positioning the instrument, proper bow hold, and simple string crossing exercises. A great beginners book is the quick steps to note reading. I believe beginner students should be practicing with this book every day. When they are ready to start learning pieces, I really like to use the Suzuki books. This works for both young beginners and adult beginners. For students who are more advanced, I am adamant about them practicing scales and etudes. Read More

As a teacher, my goal is to give students the technical tools and sensitivity of listening necessary to freely express themselves through the violin, no matter what level they may be. Much of my system of teaching has been passed down from my mentor Li Lin, who masterfully taught hundreds of young violinists of all ages in San Francisco before being appointed faculty at The Juilliard School. I use the "bel canto" technique in my approach to singing, which translates to "beautiful singing". To me, beauty of sounds is the most important thing. Establishing a solid technique for singing healthily comes first, and artistry will follow. Technique and artistry are dependent upon each other.
